The Halo Group specialises in temporary mezzanine design. We provided our products and services to London agency Timebased Events who commissioned The Halo Group to build a raised platform at the annual GQ Awards ceremony.
Our brief was to construct a temporary mezzanine to connect two existing balconies that ran parallel along the length of the room, thus creating a U shape space on the upper level. The challenges of the project included spanning a double stairwell & building around a complex array of supporting pillars all on a tight overnight deadline. The project required our specialist products and services and construction expertise.
This was one of our most technical builds to date. A significant challenge was the lack of space at the front of the building for our temporary mezzanine to sit. The staircase almost backed onto the wall and therefore did not leave enough space for the leg base plates to be positioned. An engineering solution was required. To overcome the challenge we incorporated a solid RSJ beam into our existing system which was floated on a raised ledge behind the staircase of this grade 1 listed building. The support legs were then dropped onto this beam, which replaced the need for base plates. Once this intricate solution was in place, we then continued to build a skeletal frame to create a 5mx15m temporary mezzanine. The space was used to increase the footprint within the venue with additional VIP tables placed on top of the structure over two tiers of steel deck finished with carpet. Premium chrome handrails and glass balustrades completed the look.
