The Halo Group provided stage design services to Music BBC at Glastonbury festival in 2015. Each year we create a new design for the Broadcaster. This project has become one of our favourite events in our yearly calendar.
Following on from our previous highly successful delivery at the 2014 event, our brief this year was to create another backdrop and stage design for BBC Music with even more colour and texture than ever before. The BBC Music Tepee has become one of the most recognisable features at Glastonbury festival due to the Broadcaster’s huge social media presence. Youtube views alone massively increase the size of the audience at the festival so one of our key considerations when creating their stage design each year is how it will look on camera and online. Answering this part of the brief was paramount so our creative team set to work!
To achieve the end result we incorporated a printed light reflective Samba backdrop which was backlit to make it stand out on camera. A pagoda style frame was constructed in place of traditional truss work to house further lighting and to suspend a variety of production features above head height, yet keeping the detail in frame. We chose to dress the stage in a selection of real and faux foliage and floral detail to bring our design to life and to add further colour and texture in line with the brief.
