Backyard Cinema Last Chapel

Set Construction

The Halo Group specialises in set construction and is the proud production partner to Backyard Cinema, London's favourite themed pop-up cinema. Each season we offer our creative services to the organisers to help realise their latest immersive environment concept for their loyal band of film followers.

For this season, the organisers chose the title "Last Chapel" inspired by movie classic Kill Bill. With this season's set construction taking on a distinct, edgier feel to the production, Backyard Cinema's exciting brief really struck a chord with our team and became another instant sell out series.

The Brief

Our brief was to undertake the set construction within the venue. The organisers wanted to create an atmosphere as well as a great aesthetic so our multi-award winning production team set to work to delivery an unforgettable experience for cinema goers lucky enough to grab themselves a ticket.

The Solution

On arrival, our Last Chapel facade which was styled on the church from the movie created a dramatic and imposing feature within the foyer. Constructed in-house by The Halo Group, the set construction helped inspire a distinct, foreboding ambience. As guests tentatively stepped through its hallowed doors they were led down a dimly lit hidden passage with neon crosses and other eerie religious memorabilia strewn throughout the space. Their spooky journey continued into the main screening room where our specially styled bar, complete with more neon signage, aged fairground lights and a selection of Americana props and creative production pieces helped set the scene. The room boasted church style arch features along each side and at the end of the room by the screen, we built a pulpit from which each film was introduced before screenings. The look was completed with the projection of a stained glass window, beamed onto the main screen to tie our creative production together.
