The Halo Group designed and built a temporary structure called The Bunker at Global Gathering which was finished with scenic painting techniques to create an ultra realistic concrete effect on the exterior. This exciting project utilised our unique modular steel build system, set build team, scenic artists and sound and lighting riggers to achieve the amazing end result!
Our brief was to create a world class temporary venue design for GlobalGathering. The overarching concept was to create a destination area at the festival, something that would be talked about long after the event itself. The organisers wanted to move away from the standard festival big top toward something more radical, something more immersive and something all together more impressive. As one of the festival’s principal venues, our design needed to be as functional as it was eye catching and needed to feature first class PA and lighting, bespoke DJ booth and a range of other production.
To create “The Bunker” we opted to use our unique modular steel build system. Our system is made up of different lengths of RSJ beams and connector bolts and can be built to any design or configuration making it the ideal product for festival activations, set builds, scenic construction and other projects. This provided the skeletal frame for our production features which were attached directly to our frame. To achieve the look, we applied an ultra realistic concrete style finish using a range of scenic painting techniques. Inside the venue, we built a bespoke DJ booth featuring a projection mapping overlay to bring the experience to life during the performances. We also installed a state of the art D&B PA and a specialist lighting rig to help create an immersive experience much to the delight of the crowd.
