The Halo Group are scenic designers and are also the proud production partner to Backyard Cinema, London's favourite themed pop-up cinema. Each season we offer our creative production services to the organisers to help create an immersive experience for their loyal band of film followers.
Our brief was to undertake the set design within the venue. As experienced scenic designers, we understood the organisers’ vision, as they aimed to create an immersive experience perfectly suited to the festive season, whilst putting their spin on the ubiquitous winter market concept. Our production team set to work to deliver an unforgettable set design for cinema goers lucky enough to grab themselves a ticket.
On arrival, guests were greeted by an imposing rock face towering above attendees in the foyer. Scenic stone textures, snow capped peaks and medieval style castle turrets positioned high above the crowd helped set the scene for things to come. Drinks in hand and ready for adventure, guests were invited to step through a mysterious opening into the cavernous ice cave deep in the mountains. Designed and built by The Halo Group, inside, cinema goers found themselves surrounded by deep blue ice and snow encrusted rocks as they cautiously made their way over our rope bridge feature dangling above the precipice below. A selection of props, set pieces and medieval inspired items adorned the walls to create an ancient twisted fairy tale scene – capturing the imagination of anyone brave enough to enter. Once inside the main auditorium, our snow kingdom set build continued with a fully immersive experience complete with jagged ice crystals, ice blue lighting and and further props to complete the look and feel.
